Position Description
This positions primary responsibility is to maintain all conveyor and building systems in order to support the goals of the Distribution Center. Secondary responsibility is to maintain rolling stock assets. A thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical and operational controls associated with the conveyor systems and building equipment and components is required in order to maintain assets in a quality fashion. The job scope includes recommending changes to and executing preventative maintenance programs and repairs to automated sorting equipment, associated conveyors, material handling equipment, building envelope and building MEP (mechanical/electrical/plumbing) systems. This position will be responsible for properly
completing work requests as well as projects of a complex nature.

Position Requirements
Performs routine preventative maintenance on building systems such as fire protection, building life safety, security, HVAC equipment, dock equipment, building envelope, conveyor systems, and storage racks to maximize the useful life of the facility assets.
Trouble shoots and repairs the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and control system components of conveyor systems and building components.
Operates, trouble shoots and resolves problems associated with computer controlled building systems, conveyor systems, and maintenance management systems.
Assists with developing preventative maintenance programs as appropriate. Recommends improvements to existing preventative maintenance programs.
Performs light carpentry, plumbing, welding, mechanical and electrical work.
Utilizes the MP2 computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to get work assignments to repair, replace, or remove equipment, fixtures, or furniture.
Attends outside training relating to rolling stock maintenance as well as conveyor operations (RSC, PLC, RapidRoute) and building operating systems.
Coordinates multiple tasks to meet warehouse operation needs.
Follows safe work practices.
Follows directions with attention to detail and record keeping.
Adjusts to changes in priorities, and flexible to respond to on-call emergencies.
Performs problem resolution for complex problems and utilizes efficient work practices.
Prioritizes own workload.
Cross trains and provides guidance to less experienced employees.
Provides recommendations for process improvements.
Works in cross-functional teams and work groups to identify and resolve problems by proposing unique and innovative solutions.
Develops parts list for procuring material for work assignments.
Keeps supervisor and customers informed of progress on assignments and projects.
Utilizes communication skills that enable easy understanding of technical information being communicated.
Utilizes knowledge and understanding of codes such as the NEC, BOCA and/or UBC, and OSHA.
Understands and is knowledgeable of MSDS information.
Maintains an excellent attendance record; is flexible with work schedule.
Familiar with Symbol RF technology and Pick LP and how they are used in a Distribution Center environment.
Works independently on projects and work assignments.
Monitors work of contractors and service providers.
Operates all material handling and mobile equipment within the Distribution Center.
Performs work requests and projects as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Complies with Grainger policies, guidelines and procedures as well as state and federal regulations, OSHA and Hazardous Material requirements in the storage, handling and movement of product.
Performs necessary housekeeping duties in order to maintain a clean, safe, organized work environment.
Actively participates in process improvements by utilizing Grainger's quality system.
Operates efficiency and effectiveness directly impact on customer satisfaction and company profitability.
Essential Functions and Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of building and equipment maintenance experience with two years maintaining Dematic or similar type conveyor systems, HVAC and/or electrical/electronics.
Completion of technical training in electricity, electronics, welding, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
Demonstrated experience using electrical test equipment, hand tools, power tools, calipers, gauges, etc.
Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting MEP (Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing) drawings and schematics.
Certified to operate material handling and lift equipment.
Ability to grasp, bend, lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis and work at heights and in unusual positions.
Meet all minimum requirements for Distribution Center Associate.
Must be able to tolerate an environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and work around moving equipment. Work in collaboration with all DC Operations Managers, Process Managers, Supervisors, team leader associates, and non-exempt employees.
